Bio:
Carlos Michelen is a senior member of the technical staff in Sandia National Laboratories’ Water Power Technologies Program. His research interests include machine learning and data science methods for marine renewable energy applications, open source code development, statistical methods, computational fluid mechanics, and computational modeling of wave energy converters. He has worked on the development of several Sandia wave energy tools, including WEC-Sim and WecOptTool. Carlos received his bachelor’s and master’s in naval architecture and marine engineering from the University of Michigan, with minors in oceanography and international engineering.
Carlos obtained his Ph.D. from Virginia Tech, where his dissertation focused on machine learning and data assimilation for turbulence modeling.
