The growing energy needs of the world and the threats brought on by climate change are the greatest grand challenges of the 21st century with potential impacts that extend for generations to come.

  • Speaker: Keith D. Hentel

The individual and societal costs of disease are extraordinarily high and continue to increase. To achieve effective, equitable, and sustainable health care for all, systems engineering offers the opportunity for a multi-disciplinary approach to redesign the status quo, leading to improved outcomes and decreased costs. This lecture will focus on specific challenges facing U.S. healthcare systems and the opportunities that these challenges provide.

  • Speaker: Linda Booth Sweeney, "It’s complicated!  Overcoming Obstacles to 'Thinking In Systems'"
    In this highly interactive session, systems educator Dr. Linda Booth Sweeney will explore the challenges of “thinking in systems.” Drawing on her doctoral research, Linda will highlight common misperceptions and barriers to systems thinking. Together we will identify and share practical strategies for overcoming these obstacles to support ongoing systems education, and foster innovative, sustainable solutions to complex challenges.
