After 37 years as a member of the ORIE and Systems Engineering faculty, Professor Peter Jackson has announced his retirement.
Born in Nipigon, Ontario, Canada, Professor Jackson received a B.A. in Economics with Mathematics in 1975 (University of Western Ontario), a M.Sc. in Statistics in 1978 (Stanford University), and a Ph.D. in Operations Research in 1980 (Stanford University). He joined the ORIE faculty in 1980 and was instrumental in the creation of the Systems Engineering program. Professor Jackson is a former director of undergraduate studies in ORIE and served the Systems Engineering program as director and director of graduate studies.
Professor Jackson is currently serving as Head of Pillar for Engineering Systems and Design at Singapore University of Technology & Design.
Among his many honors are Undergraduate Outstanding Professor of the Year in 2008, 2012 and 2013 and ORIE Master of Engineering Outstanding Teaching Award in 1998, 2000 and 2010. He also received the Dorothy and Fred Chau M.S. '74 College of Engineering Excellence in Teaching Award in 2010.
